Summary:l

This was the first derby televised by Sky Sports following the re-branding of the BSB Sport Channel the previous April, although TV viewers only saw the game delayed later in the evening. Saints were joint top of the table but had lost the Regal Trophy Final to Widnes at Central Park a week earlier and although they competed reasonably, Wigan always looked too strong. Andy Gregory was returning from a two match suspension and was full of fresh vigour, being involved in two tries for Shaun Edwards. Saints had a dig in the first quarter of the second half but a try for Steve Hampson on the hour settled the game with Jonathan Griffiths late Saints try only being consolation.
