Summary:l

With Great Britain playing France on the Friday after this Wednesday game, Wigan were absent of five Great Britain internationals for this visit of Leigh. Wigan were not happy about this and complained to the RFL for those players to be released to play but Maurice Lindsay at the RFL told them to get on with it. They needn't have moaned because they still spanked Leigh and strangely Martin Offiah played despite being left out the international squad with concerns on his fitness. Wigan had kicked off the game two points behind Saints in the table after they had beaten both Halifax and Warrington since Wigan had last played a league match. It was a reasonable first half by Leigh, to only trail 14-0 at half time, but Wigan kicked on second half to go back top of the table.
