Summary:l

Having lost their previous two games to both to first Hull then Sheffield, Wigan couldn't afford any more slip ups and needed to beat Saints here on Good Friday. Conceding a try to Bernard Dwyer on two minutes was not a great start and a drop goal from Tommy Martyn made it 7-0 in just 8 minutes. Then Kelvin Skerrett was sin binned on 13 minutes for punching in the scrum and things were beginning to look bleak. But Wigan managed to score with 12 men, Shaun Edwards racing under the posts from Phil Clarke's pass. That it 7-6 and the only other first half score was a penalty from Martyn for 9-6 to Saints at the break. A penalty from Frano Botica brought that lead down to 9-8 before Martin Offiah kicked a rare drop goal on 59 minutes to level the game up at 9-9. Wigan found the lead on 67 minutes with Martin Dermotts run from dummy half seeing him slip the pass to send Andy Platt over near the posts. Saints were caught expecting a drop goal attempt but after Botica's easy conversion it was now 15-9 to Wigan and that's how it finished. An unspectacular but precious victory towards the title for Wigan.

The 12:30pm Kick Off at the request of Sky had seen Wigan play on this Good Friday before their rivals and their was great news later in the day with leaders Bradford having lost 27-18 away at Halifax. So Warrington ended up going top in the afternoon after beating Widnes 28-14 at Wilderspool.
