Having already visited Headingley for a Regal Trophy Quarter Final against Leeds and a Semi Final against Castleford, it was beginning to become more home than Central Park with the Final against Halifax also being there. Wigan made a great start with Kevin Iro breaking from sixty metres out to feed Shaun Edwards for a try. Halifax were guilty of some "rank bad tackling", or something like that, according to BBC commentator Ray French but Joe Lydon missing the extras meant the lead was only 4-0. Two penalty goals from Les Holliday levelled the match at 4-4 with discipline being lost. A brawl on 25 minutes saw no action and later, Wigan would re-take the lead two minutes before half time. Martin Dermott was lying on the floor but Andy Goodway broke through to feed Ellery Hanley for the try. Again kick was missed but Wigan went in 8-4 up. Lindsay Johnston was sin binned then for the foul on Dermott.

Wigan took control second half with Hanley scoring twice more for a hat-trick and Andy Goodway scoring also for a 24-6 lead, with Halifax only adding another penalty. More ill-discipline saw props Andy Platt and Brendan Hill sin binned and when Hill returned later to score a try, it was only a consolation.
