Summary:l

Once again Wigan produced another example of sloppy second half play, this time they wouldn't get away with it like they had done the previous Sunday against Hunslet. All had been great first half with tries from Joe Lydon (2), Kevin Iro and Andy Goodway helping them towards a 22-6 lead with only Kevin McCormack replying for Saints. In the 50th Minute though Andy Platt sent Phil Veivers in for a score and the momentum would be completely with Saints when a second try for Veivers, from a Shane Cooper kick, was touched down on 61 minutes. The score was now 22-20 and they kept their pressure up with two more tries in as many minutes from Dave Tanner and Les Quirk that made it 30-22. Wigan still had time to come back but they couldn't get going and they finished embarrassed at an almighty collapse. Paul Loughlin added a late penalty and Saints went home with a bit of joy after losing a lot of face earlier in the month in losing the Adrian Shelford court case against Wigan, at a cost of 50,000 to the club.
