Summary:l

So it came to this. Wigan's first of five attempts they would have to wrap up their first league title in 27 years since 1960! Visiting Featherstone had taken a 1-0 lead with a Deryck Fox drop goal in the 3rd Minute but Wigan soon got going with Shaun Edwards sending Andy Gregory over in the 7th Minute. Further first half tries from Ellery Hanley (2), Henderson Gill (2), Joe Lydon and Dean Bell had Wigan 34-1 up at the break and in the end Hanley would finish with four tries and Gill three. Lydon bagged another second half with David Stephenson also getting a four pointer. Fox would add a try for Featherstone but Wigan had ran them ragged all afternoon to win 62-7. So this was Wigan's first championship that had been achieved using the first past the post system rather than play offs. It was some style to have it wrapped up with four games still to spare.
