Summary: |
Wigan had been in a great position to take out the title before Easter but this second loss over the weekend would prove to be a savage blow. Wigan had led 6-2 at half time after Ellery Hanley's try but Oldham hit back to lead 8-6 after a Gary Warnecke try. A try from substitute Keith Holden saw Wigan re-take the lead but Oldham had the better legs to add four tries late in the game and Wigan's one response from David Stephenson was not enough. Widnes may have lost to St Helens but Halifax got a crucial win at home to Warrington. That left Fax seven points ahead of Wigan, although they'd played three games more. |
