Led by the great Mal Meninga, Saints crushed Wigan in the first half to lead 24-2 at the break. Meninga himself opened the scoring in the 12th Minute before later scoring a second after further tries from Roy Haggerty and Sean Day. Although Wigan "pounded" Saints in fighting back after the break, the deficit was far too much to overcome.
