Summary: |
Wembley was at stake against Hull KR in a Challenge Cup Semi Final played at Headingley. Wigan took a very lead with a penalty goal from Colin Tyrer after just 2 minutes. Rovers hit back with an unconverted try by Coupland but another penalty from Tyrer and a dropped goal by Bill Ashurst had Wigan 6-3 up at the break. The BBC were televised Scotland v England Rugby Union from Murrayfield so only the latter stages of this match, that kicked off 30 minutes later, were shown Live on Grandstand but Wigan ended up in full control with three tries after the interval from Peter Rowe, Keith Ashcroft and Keri Jones. Hull KR found a late try from Wriglesworth but although Wigan had been described as "unconvincing" they had done more than enough to return to Wembley for the first time in four years. |
