Hunslet had beaten Wigan at Central Park two months earlier and Wigan's form of losing five of their last six heading into this game might have left them feeling vulnerable. But they got back to winning ways with a good win here, a game in which Frank Carlton made his debut. Only one try occurred first half and that game from John Barton who was sent in by Brian McTigue following a Hunslet drop out. Fred Griffiths converted for 5-0. Hunslet replied just three minutes after the interval when Stockdill kicked ahead and won the race to touch down his own kick. Conversion missed though, so Wigan still led 5-3. The match was decided by some brilliant play by Mick Sullivan on the hour mark. He got the ball 60 metres from the try line, beat two men before racing away under the posts. Easy conversion made it 10-3 and that would be that.
