21 days earlier Wigan had gone out of the cup with a loss at Leigh but within the eight days prior to this tie they had gone back into the cup and then through to Round 2 after being re-instated into the cup because Leigh had played an illegible player. That decision meant this tie v Halifax was delayed by a week and almost was delayed further with Wigan now having been accused of playing an illegible player in the tie against Leigh. On the Friday Night prior to this match, a long meeting was held to decide whether this tie should go ahead and whilst it did, it went ahead under a cloud of whether the Leigh v Wigan first round tie might be replayed for a third time and thus this tie would have to be replayed again also. In the end it was decided, after this Halifax cup tie, that all the results would stand as played and with this 5-2 win, Wigan were now in the Quarter Finals.
