Summary:l

Leigh had been in poor form since the new year but in front of a record 14,000 crowd at Mather Lane, a try by Dunbavin in the 45th Minute put them 3-0 up and that proved enough to win the cup tie. However in a meeting held just one day before the scheduled Leigh v Halifax Second Round match on March 17th, the "Northern Union Professional Sub-Committee" declared this first round result void because Leigh's Silcock had "failed to report himself for not conforming with the working clause". In short, he was declared an illegible player. The decision caused "great indignation" in Leigh and the match was ordered to be replayed on the following Wednesday March 22nd.
