Match Preview: Bradford (H) - 01.03.2008 @ JJB Stadium

Wigan Warriors v Bradford Bulls - Super League XIII Round 4..
Saturday 1st March 2008. Kick Off 6:00pm at JJB Stadium.

Interesting game this I feel. Wigan need to bounce back after losing last week - just to make sure that the positive two win start is not completely ruined and wasted. We need to bounce back with 3 away games in a row to follow.

I don't know what to make of Bradford. Many pundits and bookmakers tip them to do well but since Lesley Vianikolo left their record is Won 5 Lost 7. They have 5 players over the age of 30 - Wigan have just one (Trent Barrett).

They might be able to come away with one off victories on the back of a big pack performance, but in the fullness of time they won't have the legs to win anything - that was proved in their play off capitulation to us last September.

Rumours suggest Shontayne Hape could join Vianikolo in moving to Union - that could be the last straw for Bradford. Over time they've let the likes of Leon Pryce, Stuart Fielden, Jamie Peacock and Big Les leave and if Hape went as well............plus you've got Joe Vagana, Iestyn Harris, Glenn Morrison all heading towards retirement. They could easily slip into a situation Wigan was in three or four years back. Letting all your experienced players leave will sooner or later catch up with you. Wigan let Andy Farrell, Terry O'Connor, Mick Cassidy, Craig Smith and Adrian Lam all leave at once - replaced by kids - and the consequences were disastrous.

They do have a quality player to build round though in Sam Burgess. They are a selling club but that's one player they can't afford to let leave.

Whatever my thoughts are on Bradford - I don't think they are 3rd favourites to win the Grand Final. I feel they trail  at least behind us and Warrington - and I'll still think that if they win Saturday. But we shall see as the season goes on.

Like I said earlier they can beat us with their big pack. Wigan need to be strong in this department for the full 80. I felt the pack tired last week at Hull and that's why we lost. Home advantage could be a big factor this week and the possible return of Stuart Fielden would be a timely boost.

Wigan can beat them out wide. Defensively they are weak on the wings and that is where we beat them on the last two occasions. Tame Topou in particular is a liability. Hopefully we'll see more of Pat and Carmont combining like they did last week.

Should be a great game. Saturday Nights are always good matches it seems. Bring it on!
