Played in horrible wet conditions, Wigan were totally
dominated in this semi final. It basically fell down to the pack battle
with Leeds making 76% of the total metres first half and with hardly any
errors to help Wigan they eventually broke Wigan's defence down to be
20-0 up before the oranges.
A penalty goal from Rhyse Martin made it 2-0 before a
40/20 led towards the long overdue first try also scored by Martin who
converted and kicked another penalty for 10-0 on 23 mintues.
An Ash Handley try on 33 minutes left Wigan
desperately hanging on to just a 16-0 deficit towards half time but a
Tom Briscoe try increased the lead to 20-0.
In wet weather that was a massive lead and although
Wigan found a little bit of traction second half, the damage had already
been well done. A second try for Handley on 68 minutes eventually sealed
Wembley for Leeds with late tries to Harry Smith and Zak Hardaker being
flattering consolation.
