Under 19s v Warrington Under 19s -
Academy Phase 2
(Group 1) Semi Final
Sunday 20th Septembner
2:00pm at Whatever Orrell is called these days.
Well I must admit I turned up at Orrell and saw Nick
Gregson, normally in the back row, at Stand Off and I
wasn't sure what to expect. His move to six has occurred
after Jake Shorrocks suffered a season ending injury at the
beginning of the month against Castleford but replacement
Gregson had a solid performance here.
I certainly didn't
expect Wigan to win this so comfortably but they showed
their season long dominance to set up the Grand Final
between their clear nearest rivals St Helens at the DW next
The first twenty minutes was a decent arm wrestle with
Warrington claiming the first try as Wigan were caught
sleeping from a 20 metre tap that was returned 80 metres
for a try finished by Richard Harris. Harvey Livett
converted for 6-0.
The interchange period saw Wigan kick on though and
tries from Paddy Jones, Gabriel Fell, Liam Paisley and Liam
Marshall had Wigan 20-6 up by half time.
First try of the second half was always going to be a
big one and Josh Ganson, a good foil at hooker to the
starting Luke Waterworth, scored after two minutes and
Wigan were not looking back from 26-6.
Liam Marshall scored a near full length beauty for 30-6
on 52 minutes and a further score from the returning
Waterworth made it 36-6.
Warrington hit back with a try from Ben Sewifield but
second tries of the game for Paisley and Ganson made it
46-10. Jack Fox got another late consolation for Wire but
they were well beaten on the day with a 46-16 final score.
