Wigan Under 19s v
Wakefield Under 19s -
7:00pm at Co-Operative Stadium, Orrell.
Wigan ended the first phase of the Academy Under 19s season
with a 60-28 victory over Wakefield at Orrell.
quickly took the lead with a try for 6-0 but they had to
see off a spell of Wakefield pressure before kicking on
Once Joe Bretherton crashed over for the second try
though, they four pointers continued to follow. Lewis
Heckford sent Liam Paisley over for 18-0. Gregson scored
his second for 24-0 before a superb pass from Craig Mullen
had Paisley in again for 30-0. Jack Wells barged over for
36-0 and soon after Gregson broke through to send Liam
Marshall over for 42-0. Two minutes before the half,
Heckford sent Paisley over to complete his hat-trick and
Jake Moore, on goal kicking with Jake Shorrocks absent,
converted every one for a 48-0 lead.
Wigan though ended the half sloppy, allowing Wakefield
to score right on half time through Kieran Holt and that
set the tone for the second half in which Wakefield scored
four tries to Wigan's two.
At 48-6 the result was never in doubt and with Gabriel
Fell quickly extending that to 54-6 thoughts perhaps then
turned to a massive scoreline. But Wakefield got back to
54-28 with tries from Joe Capless, Max Jowitt, Sam Blake
and Frazer Morris.
Wigan scored last with Fell sending Paisley over for his
fourth try but the second half display left saw Wigan go
off disappointed in the end, despite this huge win.
