Report:

Two weeks ago I was quite happy with our momentum and play but unfortunately the last two weeks have highlighted that the early season worries were perhaps just put to bed for a while because certainly in this game at Catalan they emerged back in full view.

This was an absolute massacre. Wigan's second worst Super League era defeat, only beaten by a 70-0 loss at Leeds in 2005.

What worries me most is that a by word of Wigan in recent times has been that when we have lost, we have always responded. This result was a response to a cup exit. That is wounding.

The basic truth here was Wigan got schooled out wide. Apart from the Morgan Escaré try which was an intercept, albeit a superbly taken effort up the middle, every score was out wide. Josh Charnley and Dan Sarginson were embarrassed in particular and that evoked memories of a similar capitulation at Castleford earlier in the season.

At the end of the day I just feel sorry for all those supporters out there in France. They've have had absolutely nothing to cheer in away games since we went to France last July and this away form is simply not good enough. One win in eleven now away from the DW (including the "home" cup tie), one in thirteen if you count pre season. It's so hard to explain why when they've performed superbly at the DW but it's getting worse not better.

Tough times ahead on this evidence but the daft thing is, a victory over Leeds wouldn't be a shock next week in Newcastle but that would make this loss worse not better.
