On this day gas was used in the war for the
time by the British Army in the Battle of Loos. Unfortunately because of the
wind direction instead of targeting the enemy the gas blew back and resulted
in 2,632 casualties including seven deaths. On the pitch Wigan maintained
their 100% start to the season despite failure to score a try at Runcorn.
