Broughton scored the first try but it was disallowed
because H.Chapman had pushed the Wigan Full Back in the back and conceded a
free kick. Just before
half time Wigan claimed the first try. It was described as "lucky" for Bill
Yates after he just plonked down a ball that had rebounded to him from a
Broughton player. E.Webster converted to put Wigan into a 5-0 lead. That
score held until near the end of the game when Jimmy Walkden kicked a "neat"
drop goal to make it 9-0 to Wigan.
