Frank Walford 2

A big clash between 2nd and 3rd in the table. These sides had been consistently at the top end of the table during the last few years but often Wigan failed when it came to meetings between the sides, including in the 1912 and 1913 Championship Finals. Wigan were reported to be the better side in this clash but they still lost, with goal kicking being the reason. Huddersfield took an early 5-0 lead but Wigan began to dominate the game after that and two unconverted tries, either side of half time, by Frank Walford put Wigan into a 6-5 lead. Johnny Thomas apparently missed two easy conversions and that proved costly when Gronow kicked a penalty to give Huddersfield a 7-6 win.
