The local news at this time was of a meteor which had
"caused sensation" in passing throughout Lancashire and Cheshire.
later part of this Meteorite had been found on Halliwell Farm in Appley
Bridge. Many had been worried at first that this had been some kind of
airship belonging to the Germans but so their was relief to find out it
wasn't and that turned to excitement when the piece was apprehended by the
local Wigan police and displayed in a shop window in Appley Bridge for the
public to view.
Meanwhile on the field, Wigan fell to their first defeat
of the season. This despite leading by half time 10-8 and although that lead
held for the majority of the second half, the home side scored a try through
Corsi that won the game for them. Wigan dropped from top to third in the
table with this loss.
