Only four matches survived frost on this day, including
this slog of a match to start the new year over in Hull. The home side took
the lead with a penalty goal from Carmichael. Johnny Thomas then kicked a
penalty to equalise but Rovers found a try from Watson to lead 5-2 at the
break. Thomas reduced that again with another penalty but a second try by
Lord put Rovers 8-4 ahead. Arthur Francis kicked a penalty goal to make it
8-6 in the end but Wigan couldn't score again to earn at least a draw.
Huddersfield's match also went ahead away at St Helens but although they
drew 8-8, it was enough to take them above Wigan to the top of the table.
