Summary:l

Oldham had ended a long unbeaten run of league leading Huddersfield the previous Saturday so this was a tough cup tie for Wigan., and they were doing well early on. Lance Todd opening the scoring to put Wigan 3-0 ahead but Anlezak's try for Oldham was converted to put them 5-3 ahead. But by half time Wigan were back in front 8-5 with Johnny Thomas scoring and then converting his own try. What made it tough for Wigan second half was losing Lance Todd to injury from a "nasty tackle" just before the break. That left them fighting with just 12 men and although they tried and tried, Oldham ground them down and it was only towards the end of the game that they kicked two penalty goals to go 9-8 in front and then a try from Davies finished the tie off.
