Summary:l
This Australia touring side included four New
Zealand born players to help promote the game of Rugby League in New
Zealand, so this touring side was billed as Australasians. They had been
unbeaten in ten matches on the tour so far, including victories over Wales
and England, but Wigan inflicted their first defeat of the tour, like they
had done to New Zealand in 1907. It was 2-2 at half time after Jim
Sharrock's penalty goal was equalised by a drop goal for Australia by Howard
Hallett. In the second half Johnny Thomas put Wigan back in front with a
penalty for 4-2 before an unconverted Jim Leytham try wrapped up a 7-2 win.
