Summary:l
Wigan were playing Broughton in their first
ever Challenge Cup Final appearance but heavy rain marred the game played at
The Willows in Salford. The rain left the pitch waterlogged "like a pond"
and the supporters that did turn out have cold and wet feet to contend with.
The conditions didn't suit Wigan and they had objected to the game taking
place but were overruled and they struggled to get anything going all
afternoon. Broughton took the lead with a 15th minute penalty goal from
Harris and he kicked a second just before half time for a 4-0 lead that
proved enough. Lord Derby presented the cup to Broughton but Wigan were left
to rue to weather which played into the winners hands.
