Summary:l
Their had been high anticipation in Wigan for the visit
of the Australians but the spectacle was ruined by being played in heavy
fog. The match was in so much doubt that the crowd was kept outside until
the last minute, when it was decided that the sides would play a "friendly".
The Gloom was so bad the spectators could see very little of the
action (remember no floodlights until 1967) but the players seemed to cope
reasonably well. Australia led 4-0 at half time but after the break Wigan
fought back to win. So much for it being a "friendly" because Australia's
Larry O'Malley was sent off during the game for punching an opponent.
