Summary:l
Two days after the original tie, the replay was witnessed
by 14,000 at Central Park. Wigan took the lead with a Jim Leytham try that
was converted by himself for 5-0. Leigh responded before half time with a
try from T.Johnson that was converted by Molyneux for 5-5. After the break
Wigan pushed on and found two tries with Leytham claiming a second before
Lance Todd put Wigan into a two score lead, despite failed conversions.
After the match Leigh reported Wigan to the Northern
Rugby Union Committee citing rule 12 that Massa Johnston had left the field
at one point to change his playing jersey without the permission of the referee. The ruling was that if
you leave the field without the referee's permission you can't then later
return. Having doing that and thus broken that rule, it was decided a day
later to uphold Leigh's protest. The NRU decided that the result of this
match would be voided and the tie was to be replayed the following Monday.
