Summary:l

The Northern Rugby Union were desperate to expand into Wales and Aberdare were one of four new Welsh Clubs, making a total of six, to play in the league this season. This was Aberdare's first match and elsewhere on this opening day of the season, two of the new Welsh teams, Barry and Treherbert, played each other in which it was reported that "neither team properly understood the rules of the game". Perhaps given that it should not have been a shock to see Wigan produce a then record victory in winning 56-0 at Aberdare.
