Snow was falling for much of this game as Wigan
progressed to the Quarter Finals at Watersheddings. Such was the size of the
crowd that two fans were injured when crush barriers collapsed in the
Ripponden Road end of the ground. Jim Sullivan had put Wigan in front with a
penalty goal but T.Rees equalised with one of his own only a minute later.
Then Jack Morley scored a brilliant try in which he beat six men for pace.
The conversion was missed and when T.Rees kicked a second penalty, the score
was only 5-4 to Wigan. However, late in the first half Morley kicked a drop
goal for a 7-4 half time score to Wigan. Then Morley scored his second try
in the first minute of the second half and that proved to break Oldham's
effort, even though plenty of time remained. The match was sealed with a
converted try from Harold Edwards later on.
