The four play off teams were decided but the positions of Warrington, Wigan and Salford were still to be settled on this final set of the matches for the regular season that ironically had the top four playing each other with Swinton against Warrington and Salford here against Wigan. Wigan named an unchanged team from their Saturday victory over Widnes, but perhaps lived to regret that because disaster struck during the match. Jim Sullivan was injured an hour into the game, which not only cost Wigan victory in this match, but also left the club sweating over his fitness for the play offs which would begin five days later. Earlier, Wigan had gone in front in the first minute with an interception being returned the length of the field with Hector Gee, Gordon Innes and Jack Morley combining before George Bennett finishing. Interestingly, Charlie Seeling converted that try which obviously suggests Sullivan wasn't fully fit anyway. Salford made it 5-5 with a try from Miller that Risman converted. Sullivan had been injured badly then on the hour mark but Wigan still re-took the lead with a try from Hector Gee. But Sullivan was now a passenger and Wigan had to drag Dicky Twose over from the left wing to help him defend. Furthermore, Gwynne Davies was also limping about, so it was no surprise when Pearson scored. Luckily perhaps for Wigan, Risman missed the conversion so the draw ensured they finished third above them at least. Warrington meanwhile beat Swinton 7-5 to maintain second, but the result at Salford would have ensured that regardless.
