Summary:l
Wigan were "strangely erratic" in this match described
one newspaper. They took the lead early with Alf Ellaby scoring against his
old club but after 27 minutes, Bill Mercer scored for Saints and Izzy Davies
converted to put them 5-3 ahead. Although Ellaby had two tries disallowed,
no further scoring occurred and Wigan lost to a Saints side that was in the
bottom half of the table. 16,000 attended. Swinton recalled top spot with
8-5 win away at Barrow whilst Wigan now led a pack of four teams trailing
them by two points.
