Needing results to finish in a "Top 4" play off position, Wigan's task on Easter Monday could not have been tougher. Salford were the current champions and were running away with the league leadership. They held a 14 point lead at the top of the table and hadn't lost at The Willows all season. Wigan took the lead with a Jim Sullivan penalty goal that was quickly followed by a try for Dicky Twose. Sullivan missed the conversion, so the lead was 5-0. Gus Risman kicked a penalty goal to reduce the lead but a second try for Twose, this time converted, had Wigan leading 10-2 at the break. Early second half, Wigan went on the rampage and tries from Sullivan and a brace for Jack Morley allowed Sullivan to kick his 173rd Goal of the season, which saw him set a new Rugby League Record for Goals within one season, beating his own old record. Wigan now led 21-2 and although Salford fought back to 21-10 in the end, the result was well deserved by the visitors, watched by 20,000. Elsewhere, Third Placed Leeds were playing Fifth Placed Halifax and the result was a double edged sword for win. The loss for Leeds allowed Wigan to go third but Halifax below them still left them sweating on the "Top 4".  That said, who was Wigan's next opponent? Yes, Halifax!
