Second placed York had beaten Wigan in January then knocked them out of the cup at Central Park in February, so it was nice for Wigan to earn a big midweek victory here. A Gwynne Davies try in the 10th Minute was followed by one for Dicky Twose, with Jim Sullivan's conversion to the first try putting Wigan 8-0 up. York hit back on the half hour with a try from Elias, that Dingsdale converted but Wigan built up a two second lead again before the break after Vernon Case scored, converted by Sullivan for 13-5. Saddington kicked a penalty goal for your on half time for 13-7. After the break tries from Joe Golby and George Bennett saw Wigan home with a 21-14 victory.
