Jim Sullivan was off on international duty
again,. First he was representing Wales against Australia at Wembley Stadium
in London on this Saturday. Jack Morley was also in the Welsh side that lost
51-19. Then a day later their was an England v Australia exhibition match
taking place in Paris. Playing on a Sunday Afternoon was a no, no in England
until 1967, so this was a novelty, but 5,000 turned out at Stade Pershing to
see Australia win 63-13. England didn't take the unofficial test too
seriously but both Sullivan and Morley played again and the exhibition did
enough to inspire a team of French men to tour England later in the season
and also begin forming leagues. Meanwhile, the absence of the pair left
Wigan short here against Oldham but they were not punished for missing goal
kicks in a narrow 6-2 victory.
