Rain fell throughout this match which stifled the quality on show. On penalty goals were scored in the first half. Dave Brown put Australia 2-0 ahead in the 12th Minute but Jim Sullivan equalised for Wigan in the 18th Minute. Then ten minutes before half time, Sullivan kicked Wigan ahead and that 4-2 lead held until half time. Australia re-took the lead in the second half with a try for Sid "Joe" Pearce that Brown converted for a 7-4 lead. Then Alan Ridley finished off the scoring with an unconverted try.
