Summary:l |
After a scoreless first half, this semi final burst into
life early in the second half when Johnny Ring sent John Sherrington over to
give Wigan a 3-0 lead. Jim Sullivan missed the conversion though. It was a
contest of Wigan's attack against St Helens defence but Saints did find an
equalising try in the 55th Minute. Les Fairclough darted over from a scrum
and George Lewis converted to put Saints 5-3 ahead. It looked like that
would be enough but Sullivan rescued a replay for Wigan with a 77th Minute
Penalty Goal, despite kicking into the wind. The crowd of 37,169 was a
record for a Cup Semi Final and also set a then record crowd for Station
Road. The gate reciepts were £2,666 and 9 Shillings. |
