Jim Sullivan 1

After two gruelling cup semi final matches against St Helens Recreation, Wigan were tired and struggling against Hull KR. They knew a win would seal a "Top 4" play off spot but Rovers also needed results to make sure they were in the play off mix. Whilst Wigan had been playing the two cup ties, other sides had been ploughing on with league games and in the interim, their lead at the top had been cut by Huddersfield down to a lead of just 0.04%. In this match, Rovers had a 5-0 lead at Half Time but Johnny Ring responded early after the break, with Jim Sullivan's conversion, his 100th goal of the season, levelling the scores. Wigan then took the lead with a second try for Ring but Sullivan failed to convert this time. That 8-5 lead was held all the way until the 76th Mintue when Bateman converted a loose Wigan pass into a try. A draw wouldn't have been a bad result for Wigan but Osborne's conversion saw Rovers nick the result. Such was the daft nature of the Points Percentage table, Huddersfield went top above Wigan even though they also lost 9-6 to Leigh. That was because Wigan's points percentage dipped further, mainly on account of having played less games.
