Summary:l |
Wigan had been used to "Wigan Derbies" in recent years
with Wigan Highfield playing in the league, but this was a Wigan Derby of a
different kind with amateur club Pemberton Rovers visiting Central Park in
the Challenge Cup. Whilst Wigan Highfield played at Tunstall Lane in
Pemberton, this Rovers side played in Lamberhead Green, with strong
connections to the Working Men's Club, which remains on White Street at the
back of the "White Swan" pub. The match was very much the Johnny Ring show
with his seven tries equalling his own most tries in a match record for
Wigan. In fact this was the third occasion Ring had scored seven in a match
for Wigan. |
