Summary:l |
"Wigan disappointing" was the headline as their season
ended at Hull KR. Rovers forwards were "smarter" than Wigan's and they
thoroughly deserved their win. Hoult had given KR a dropped goal 2-0 lead
then Austin scored a try for a 5-0 lead. A further try by Bielby and a
penalty goal by Osborne then had them 10-0 up. Only a penalty goal from Jim
Sullivan reduced that to 10-2 at half time. Wigan were "much better" second
half but Rovers defended their lead magnificently. The only score Wigan
found was a Tommy Howley drop goal for 10-4 but a two score lead was too
much to overcome in the end and Harris scored a clincher for Rovers late in
the game. This meant Wigan's season was over, so instead of attending a
Championship Final on 2nd May, Wiganers could instead take one last ride on
the town's trams, that were about to be replaced by "trackless trolley
buses"!! |
