Summary:l

This result made the front news pages of one paper, such was the size of the win. "A Northern Union Cricket Score" was the headline as Wigan recorded what still remains their record victory against Flimby and Fothergill United from Cumbria. They had not lost a game in the Cumberland Amateur League all season but Wigan ran riot scoring 24 tries, 22 of which were converted by Jim Sullivan. He set individual records for most goals and points by a player in a match, two records which also still remain today. Johnny Ring's 7 tries was also a new club record for most tries in a match for Wigan. That record went on to be equalled many times but wasn't beaten until Martin Offiah's ten tries against Leeds in May 1992. The final score of 116-0 fell just short of the record victory of 119-2 set by Huddersfield against Swinton Park in 1914.
