Wigan suffered their first league defeat in ten matches
since September 6th against Swinton who had also beaten them on the opening
day of the season at Central Park. It was a 2nd v 3rd in the table clash and
with this win Swinton went top of the table. Wigan though were hampered by
not only Danny Hurcombe being Sent Off in just the 15th Minute, but also
Jack Price been withdrawn from the field injured. Swinton's pack began to
naturally dominated with the two man advantage but it was only a penalty
goal from Morris that gave them the lead. Amazingly Wigan hit back with a
try from Attie van Heerden which had put them 3-2 ahead but by half time
F.Evans scored for Swinton to make it 5-3. That was the end of the scoring
but Wigan actually were unlucky not to win the match late. A great Wigan
effort considering the circumstances.
