Wigan were forced into changes for this and the rest of the season with Jim Sullivan, Johnny Ring, Danny Hurcombe and Jack Price having set sail for the Great Britain tour of Australia and New Zealand. No airplanes in those days, it was a boat trip which took a few weeks and thus it meant they would miss the crunch end of the league season. So Sol Oakley came in for Jim Sullivan (playing only his second match for the club), Dick Armstrong made his debut here replacing Johnny Ring, whilst the other two were replaced by more experienced names. Wigan had no problems seeing off 4th place Hunslet, in this extra game played just two days before the busy Easter weekend began.
