Summary:l

Well Wigan had to win or else they would have blown a top 4 spot in remarkable fashion given the position they were in at the turn of the year. That wasn't the whole story though. Hull KR still had two games in hand yet to play and Oldham also had a small chance of over-hauling them. Wigan did their bit against Saints but they had a long wait before knowing if Hull KR won those two games in hand. Rovers did beat York 8-0 on Wednesday April 12th but in a points percentage table, losses were crucial also, so Rovers still had to win their final match. They did that also though with an 18-5 win at home to Barrow on Monday 16th April. So Wigan finally knew their play off hopes were dashed, 9 days after they had concluded their regular season. Ironically Rovers would go on to win the league championship despite only sneaking into the top 4 right at the end of the season not been inside the top four for most of the season. For Wigan, four defeats in six days over a busy Easter period had cost them dear, winning just one of those four defeats would have been enough.
