Jim Sullivan 3

Although Wigan were still in the cup and leading the league heading into this 1st v 5th clash at Station Road, their form had been patchy since the turn of the year. A win here would have pretty much secured a top four play off place but defeat leaves them needing results in games to come. Wigan simply struggled and Swinton took advantage. Jim Sullivan had kicked Wigan into a 4-0 lead before a Smith try for Swinton brought the arrears down to 4-3 at the break. Swinton then took the lead early second half with a second try for Smith before he completed his hat-trick to put Swinton into a 13-4 ahead. Percy Coldrick did retaliate with a try for Wigan but it wasn't enough to avoid the loss. Hull's 20-6 victory at Halifax now meant they went top of the table with Wigan dropping to second.
