A 16 match unbeaten run for Wigan came to an end at the hands of Hull, who were ironically the last team to have beaten Wigan on April 8th in a Challenge Cup Semi Final. Two Jim Sullivan penalty goals had put Wigan 4-0 up but they bombed chances to increase that lead. Hull punished with a try from Taylor and conversion by Kennedy to lead 5-4 at the break. Wigan retaliated strongly at the start of the second half. Sullivan kicked a third penalty to restore a lead at 6-5 before Wilf Hodder scored a try for 9-5 when he charged down a kick. But a try from Morgan and another Kennedy conversion saw Hull take the win 10-9. The loss saw Wigan drop from 1st to 3rd in the table behind both Leigh and Swinton.
