A crush outside the ground at the turnstiles led to a severe pressure that saw "a few" people faint. It was "fortunate that nothing more serious happened" reported the Manchester Guardian Newspaper. with 26,000 cramming into Broughton's "The Cliff" ground. Wigan had a strong wind advantage in the first half and took the lead early with a Jim Sullivan penalty goal. Tommy Howley then added a drop goal for 4-0. Oldham were unlucky to not score tries on two occasions before Sullivan added a second penalty goal for a 6-0 half time lead. Oldham's Herman Hilton then bombed another chance early second half and Oldham had to settle for a penalty goal from Reg Farrar. They were pressing again soon after but Jerry Shea intercepted to put Wigan further ahead with a converted try for 11-2. A third penalty goal from Sullivan rounded off the scoring at 13-2 and Wigan had sealed their second league championship title, having previous won the league in 1909.
