A "brilliant and exciting game". Hull had won both the previous two Championship Finals and had knocked Wigan out of the Challenge Cup two weeks before this game, so it was a big challenge for Wigan. Things were perhaps ominous when Hull took a first minute 5-0 lead with a try from Garratt and goal by Kennedy. Syd Jerram replied with a try for 5-3 before Wigan took the lead with a try from Ted Smith. But a try from Taylor for Hull left the half time scores level at 8-8. Jim Sullivan restored Wigan's lead with a try early second half and converted off the touchline. Then he nailed two drop goals (worth two points), both from near half way, which saw Wigan 17-8 ahead. Hull now "went to pieces" with Wigan having "little difficult in scoring further points" with Ernie Shaw and Tom Woods scoring tries.
