Summary:l |
Just 10 days before this semi final, Wigan were on a 8
match winning streak and looking hot towards achieving a league and cup
double. But a third defeat in eight days now left them wilting. Newspaper
reports point to the absence of Syd Jerram and Danny Hurcombe, injured in
the previous week's defeat at Broughton, "severly hampering them", whilst
also noting that the weather was poor. Wigan had led 5-0 after 20 minutes
following Tommy Howley's try. But by half time tries from Stone and Taylor,
plus a goal from Kennedy, had put Hull into a 8-3 lead. "Snow fell heavily"
during half time but despite Hull having the snow in their faces, their
forwards "rose to the occassion". Kennedy's interception of a George Owens
pass put them further ahead before Beasty converted another Wigan error to seal the win. |
