Following the end of the First World War in November 1918 more and
more clubs were looking to return to action.
Thus it was decided to abandon the ongoing War Season and play shortened
county seasons instead for the remainder of what would of been 1918-19. The
Lancashire Cup would also return but the Challenge Cup would only return in the

The Lancashire and Yorkshire Competitions restarted a year earlier than the
Championship. Of the championship clubs, St Helens Recreation replaced
Runcorn, and Huddersfield and Keighley did not play this year.
