Even by Wigan v Saints derby standards this was a fantastic
Saints raced into a 20-0 lead within 24 minutes and were playing
with more confidence, speed and skill than they have done all season. But a
remarkable comeback from Wigan saw them score 36 unanswered points in 35
minutes, including a Luke Robinson hat-trick, to stun the majority of the 13,000
Knowsley Road crowd.
Saints started ominously. They regained possession
from the kick off and Martin Gleeson scored in the right corner with less than
two minutes played.
Wellens scored their second try, a typical Saints

Farrell was accurate again with the conversion and Wigan to cut the Saints lead
to just two points.
Within minutes the Warriors went ahead. Luke Robinson
touched down Nick Graham's kick into the in-goal area as Martin Gleeson was
trying to kick it dead. Farrell's fourth successful kick gave Wigan a 24-20
That lead was stretched to 16 points thanks to Kevin Brown's second
try and Luke Robinson's third.
But with 20 minutes remaining Saints
brought themselves back in it with tries from Ade Gardner then Darren Smith.
Sculthorpe missed the Gardner conversion but Farrell was accurate with a penalty
to give Wigan enough breathing space to withstand a last minute try from Darren
